Looking for a fun way to teach your kids about money and the economy? Children can discover how the banking system works by tracing the circulation of money, playing economic problem-solving games, learning the meaning of the numbers on the bottom of checks, and getting a grasp of the impact of inflation and the importance of foreign trade. Kids can also see a Tommy gun once used by the Federal Reserve security guards. Some concepts are as difficult to teach as they are important to learn. For the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and Los Angeles, we enlisted local teachers to help us define learning objectives for an experience that taught children the basics of money, and a few specifics about the purposes and functions of the Federal Reserve.
