Rosa Parks Children’s Annex

Rosa Parks Children’s Annex

Montgomery, AL

After the Rosa Parks Museum opened, it became obvious that the story was too complex for young children to understand. Children of today, with no context for the times before Civil Rights, were missing the main points of the story. Within two years, we were again contracted to design a 9,000-square foot addition. The Children’s Annex centers around a dynamic, immersive bus ride called the Cleveland Avenue Time Machine, in which kids journey back into the era of Jim Crow, preparing them for the stories to follow in the rest of the museum.
